A fruitful dessert. A barren aquascape until dark. It is amazing how an area that seems almost lifeless can come to life at dark. This time of year I tell the blitz hunters "where are the fish" that stripers will feed during the middle of the day when there is an abundance of bait that is foolish for them to pass up. Otherwise stripped bass do most they're feeding during and between dawn and dusk. In general shoreline stripers are nocturnal feeders. This time of year we have more darkness than daylight, bass get accustomed to that. Versus in peak summer there is more daylight then night so feeding often carry's into the sunrise and sunset.
I am saying this because blitz fishing off the beaches has been slow this week. We still have time and a lot more fish need to move through our area. So don't stop looking. If your fishing the beach during the day fish rock structure and sand structure. Look for the beach lip, sandbars, cuts and troughs.
Big fish are starting to come into the salt ponds. The bait has primarily switched to smaller profiles with an exception of the occasional bunker or mullet school coming through. Notable fishing occurred around Watch Hill this week with a lot of fish being landed during the day and at night feeding on bunker and silversides.
Tautog fishing has been on fire. With customers easily catching their limit and having fun pulling up by catch. Many reports of guys catching Weakfish, stripers, and even fluke on crab. I've also heard some reports of decent fluke fishing. It appears a lot are heading out of the bay and are staging up putting on a good feed before heading into deeper water.
I wish we could talk more about Albies. I myself have a fever. They have been sparse to say the least but they have showed themselves to a few lucky anglers. We remain hopeful they give us one good push. There still are reports of Bonita around. If you find mackerel there's a good chance they are around somewhere.
Tuna bite remains good with some fish still around the gully and some giants in local and off block. Bait on the bottom or chunking seems to be getting it done.
