The massive influx of mullet seemed to have dissipated, there are still some in the back of the ponds but their main movement is over. Now the bass are keyed in on smaller bait. This is seeming to be silver sides and rain bait. There have been a mix of Bass, blues, bonito, and an occasional Albie along the South shore. Most fishing is structure dependent with an occasional open water beach blitz.
In the coming weeks we expect to see more of these open water blitz's. The best way to make sure you get into one is putting in your time or having good luck. A call from a friend often means your too late. Watch wind and bait migrations in order to put yourself in a productive area.
The Breachway's are hot at night with some fish being caught in the morning and evening. Fishing in the ponds have been good with a fun top water bite going on.
The Weather this week for boating wasn't so great. I would expect some boats to get out this weekend after blackfish as well as chasing birds and pods of fish. The blackfish bite has been good off boat and shore. Even with all the sand around the Breachway we are pleasantly surprised to see customers catching their fair share from the rocks.
We are excited to share the news of forward progress with a emergency repair to the damaged section of the west wall of the Breachway. On Monday the council voted to use up to $500,000 from the town's $1.4 million Beach and Pond Preservation Fund to start immediate repairs to the Breachway's west wall. Efforts to repair the Breachway also will get a boost from the state, which will allocate $300,000 to the project. This project will take place in a month and will consist of placing boulders and a berm to put a stop to sand entering the pond through the damaged area.
